We recently received our first Reel subscription delivery. And so far, they are living up to expectations. In this order, we received Reel paper towels and the Reel Toilet paper. We reviewed the Reel Toilet paper in another post. Now that we've been using the Reel paper towels for a few weeks, here are our thoughts.
Pros:
· No plastic packaging – each one is wrapped in paper
· Made from 100% FSC-certified tree-free recycled paper
· They work well & have half sheet options
· No inks, no dyes
· No BPA
· No bleach – whitened with ozone, oxygen, and/or peroxide
· Biodegradable and compostable
Cons:
· $$$
· Not as thick as Kirkland
Overall, we love the Reel paper towels. The biggest downside is the cost. If you subscribe and save, you get 12 rolls (135 sheets per roll) for $39.99; a one-time purchase is $49.99. By comparison, 12 rolls (160 sheets per roll) of Kirkland Signature Paper towels come in at $22.99. Thus, my Costco comparison runs them at nearly double the price if you choose the subscription. Note: there is no reason not to do the subscription if you decide to try, since you can cancel at any time.
The second major downside was that they aren’t as thick as the Kirkland paper towels. However, they still absorb quite well.
Regardless, I do like the paper towels and I love the plastic-free aspect. We will have to see how the high cost holds up over time. Right now, we are sticking with it.
I asked my Hubbie and here’s his response:
Hubbie Review:
As with the toilet paper: “I like that they come in paper.”
I mentioned that it seems so wasteful to cover each roll in plastic, like many brands. He mentioned that for storage purposes in a warehouse if they get wet, it prevents damage. True that, although they shouldn't be getting wet in my mind.
So overall, we give the Reel paper towels 4.2/5 stars. The biggest downside for these are the cost. If the price were to drop a bit, we would give 4.5/5 stars.
Overall, Laura Approved!
See you next time –
Laura
